RUNWAY REPORT.....Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Spring/Summer 2018

Gucci Spring 2018

WHAT: Gucci Spring/Summer 2018. Ever since 2015 when Gucci named Alessandro Michele as its Creative Director, he has transformed the brand, bringing in a vintage/geek-chic/retro/eccentric fabulousness that makes fashion editors and street fashionistas alike, all shake with excitement. This "Alessandro Michele" look--or "Gucciness" was in FULL GLAMAZON mode at the latest offering from the Italian fashion house.

Disco Inspired--Photos from late 70's NYC nightclub scenes including Angles, Infinity 1977, La Farfalle 1978 and Studio 54 1977

INSPIRATION: The inspiration of the show involved "The act of creation...as an act of resistance", influenced by antiquity as it read in the show notes. This was highlighted by the runway stage which included to-scale replicas of tombs, statues, classical artifacts of ancient Rome, India, Egypt and Greece. The runway itself was supposed to represent the Tiber river (see the blue color!). But, when one finally saw the collection, it was more late 70's/early 80's High-Glam Disco than Grecian Goddess draped gowns...

Alessandro Michele also paid homage to Elton John and the stage costumes that were created for him by Bob Mackie. Especially the shiny tracksuits which were a staple for the flashy performer (above right).
