Kilcullens season finishes on a positive note

December 18, 2017 0 Comments
Vincent Coller, Sarah Walshe and John Mullen.
It has been another busy month for Kilcullen Badminton Club, writes Tara O'Neill, with all teams in full swing across both the Dublin District League and Cup and the Southwest Leinster Badminton League.

Our Division 2 Ladies played Old Bawn in the Dublin League toward the beginning of December and came away with a 2-2 draw. Our Grade 3 Mixed team hosted a strong Kildare team and were delighted to have come away with a 5-3 win. Our Division 6 Men went down 3-1 away to Smith Nirvana, a match in which a couple of games went to three sets. Our Division 8 Mixed team faced a strong Roundwood team in the Cup with all their games going to three sets. The team managed to come out with a 4-0 victory in the end and progress to the next round.

Our Division 4 Men came away with a 3-2 win over Dunboyne in the cup and will also progress to the next round. Our Division 2 Mixed team played away to Old Bawn and mirrored the Ladies in securing a 2-2 draw. Our Division 5 Men travelled to Baltinglass but it wasn't to be the Rags night, coming away with a 3-1 loss.

Our Division 3 Ladies hosted Eire Friends and after some good strong games were unfortunate to come away with a 4-0 loss. Our Division 9 Mixed team travelled to Rush. The team came away with a 4-0 loss, but it is worth mentioning that their last game went in three sets with two 22-20 results. All to play for in the home game guys! Our Division 3 Mixed played Ailesbury at home but were unfortunate to come away with a 3-1 loss.

A mention must go to our members who took part in the FZ Forza Irish Individual Grade C & F competitions in Baldoyle at the weekend. Lynsey Walshe and Gillian Kennedy Smith got through to the semi-finals of the Grade C Womens Doubles but were extremely unlucky to lose in a tightly fought game. Also representing Kilcullen were John Mullen and Vincent Coller who made it through to the semi-final stages and continued their winning streak straight through to the final and beyond coming out with the ever-coveted gold medal.

Sarah Walshe represented Kilcullen in both the Ladies Doubles and the Mixed Doubles and came away with a gold medal in each with respective partners Deirde Nester and Dermot Daly. Well done to all for representing our club at such a competitive level, it is an excellent achievement!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kicullen Ladies hoping for a Southwest win

November 21, 2017 0 Comments
It has been an exciting fortnight for KBC with one semi-final, one play off for a place in the other side of said semi-final and one final still to come, writes Tara O'Neill.

Our Grade 3 Men (B) had drawn on points with Ballinabranna leading to a play off for a place in the Southwest Mens League semi finals. Unfortunately, it was not to be as they lost the match by just one set. Our other Grade 3 Men (A) team went ahead and flew the flag for Kilcullen in their semi final but were also unlucky, and lost to strong Kildare side. Hard luck lads.

Some more Dublin District Cup games also got underway with Division 6 Mens facing Eire Friends. It was not to be their night as they came away with a 0-3 loss. Our Division 3 Ladies also bowed out of the Cup this week with a loss to a strong Kilmessan team.

Our Grade 3 Mixed team got the Southwest Mixed League underway this week also with a 3-5 loss to Carlow YM. The eight-person team were unlucky not to get a draw with it all coming down to the last mixed of the night. Grade 2 Mens played alongside their clubmates on Carlow YMs other court but also suffered a defeat to a strong Carlow YM team.

Division 4 Men got their Dublin League off to a good start with a clean sheet over Mount Pleasant while Division 2 Mixed faced Boyne and came away with a 2-2 draw.

Well done everybody and best of luck to our Grade 3 Ladies in their final of the Southwest Leinster competition this coming Friday 24 November.

Semi final and final stages for Kilcullen Badminton teams

November 12, 2017 0 Comments
Kilcullen's Division 6 Mens team got their Dublin Cup off to a good start with a 3-0 win away to ESB and will continue to the next round, writes Tara O'Neill.

Our Grade 5 Ladies had a great 3/1 win in the Southwest League against Carlow. ?
Kilcullen's Grade 3 (A) Men had a tight game away to Johnswell and game away with a respectful 2-2 draw. Later in the week they played Carlow YM and came away with another 2-2 draw giving them a good enough result to progress to the Southwest semi finals. ?

Our Grade 3/4 ladies had a good win against Mullingar bringing them straight through to the Southwest finals. ?

It was a nail biting weekend for our Grade 3 (B) Mens team as a last minute play off had to be fixtured between themselves and Ballinabranna who were equal on points. Kilcullen were very unfortunate to lose by a set thus ending their road in the Southwest competition.?

Our Division 2 Ladies got their season off to a convincing start with a 4-0 win over Carlow YM. ?

Best of luck to our Grade 3/4 Ladies whose final of the Southwest competition will take place on Friday 24th of November and to our Grade 3 (A) Men who will play Kildare in the Southwest semi final this Tuesday 14 November.
