A final reminder that the Scoil Bhride Annual Christmas Fair organised by the Parents Association takes place in the school today, Sunday 3 December, from midday until 2.30pm.

Santa is arriving at 12.15pm.

A monster raffle with prizes including an Apple iPad, cash, hampers and much much more is again a key part of the event, with tickets on sale at the Fair for those who missed buying them in advance. The draw will be at 2.15pm and anyone with outstanding tickets can drop them off to any member of the Parents Association at the fair.

The Parents Association would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses in the town who are generously supporting our requests for sponsorship and donations.

Scoil Bhride 6th Class visit Castlemartin

December 01, 2017 0 Comments
On Friday 24 November the 6th class children were given a tour of Castlemartin House and grounds, writes Marguerite Power of Scoil Bhride. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Jim Kelly was our guide for the day. He told us all about the history of the grounds and their plans for future developments on the 800 acres. We were taken along the Laurel Walk and saw a Bug Hotel, horses, the river Liffey, different trees, the ice house, the herb garden, the orchard, the stables and the underground well.

We also went into the church which Jim told us had been rebuilt using traditional wooden pegs instead of nails to hold up the roof and it now has underground heating.

We learned a lot about our local history and the flora and fauna in the area.

CPC's TY Photography reveals stunning talent

November 25, 2017 0 Comments

The first block of students doing the Photography module in the CPC Transition Year programme recently completed their course, writes Brian Byrne.

At the invitation of the College's Art teacher, Lesley Kelly, we talked with four of the students about their experience on the course.

The short documentary above is the result. It includes a selection of photographs from all the class. The students we talked with are Ella Duane, Katelyn Smith, David Browne and Sydney Sheridan.

The Diary would like to thank them all for their time. There's a full story about the class in next week's Kildare Nationalist, and many of the photographs are on display in a corridor in CPC.

An exhibition of this year's TY class work will be considered when all students have completed the module.

The children of St Joseph's NS raised 400 for the Temple Street Children's Hospital with their recent annual Breakfast Morning.

The event was organised by the pupils of 5th and 6th classes, who prepared the breakfast while the other pupils went on their walk to Old Kilcullen.

At Old Kilcullen, Mrs Brown went through the history of the tower and the children walked back to school through a beautiful foggy morning.

The School has expressed its thanks to the local shops for giving food donations and to the parents of the school pupils for offering cooking equipment and amazing home baking.
